If there is anyone in contemporary politics who frequently remembers Nepal’s late visionary King Mahendra then that should be Mr. Ram Chandra Poudel of Nepali Congress.
It is surprising mainly because the hatred Nepali Congress leadership has towards Nepali monarchy and in particular towards King Mahendra, recalling their ‘declared enemy’ so often is not totally appetizing. What says Ram Chandra then?
It used to be rumoured during the Panchayat days that some Nepali Congress leaders were so impressed by the persona of the late King that they readily accepted to become a paid agent of the system to supply party’s secret information. Late B.P. Koirala, it is also said, trusted very few in the party yet remained perplexed in the manner the secret information were being leaked. The process continued after King Mahendra’s death. It is said that those leaders are currently occupying the upper echelon of the party. Thus they remember King Mahendra under various pretexts, critics opine.
Analysts are in knowledge of some.
The fact is that the secret news got leaked from Varanasi and approached King Mahendra within five hours. The first recipient of the secret news was Bagmati Zonal Commissioner.
Anyway, Ram Chandra who has now become the party’s vice chairman and is also the leader of the party’s parliamentary delegation said while addressing a program in Nuwakot, January 30, 2012, “The current fight is between autocrats and democrats.”
Poudel also criticized the Unified Maoists Party for its totalitarian politics.
“On the one hand, the Maoist chant nationalist slogans and bring fissures between various linguistic, ethnic and cultural groups which eventually make the country and democracy weak”. This is where Poudel remembered King Mahendra.
“From King Mahendra to Prachanda—all adhere to the same theory”, commented Poudel and added, “The Nepali Congress is singlehandedly fighting against them.”
He, however, did not reveal as to which alien instructions NC comply with even as of today?
Mr. Poudel made these quite interesting remarks at the second convention of Nepali Congress Nuwakot district chapter in Nuwakot.
Poudel keeps on talking but reminds of juicy Nepali history. He deserves appreciation.
